Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the football scholarship of his parents and a commitment to the community. His first family is that Selmon is the eldest of nine kids raised by Eufala through Lucious Selmon. Another reason for his football career was that his father was the only of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-America. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award for being the nation's best lineman. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy being the starting player. The team also took home two national championships. Selmon was honored when the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in the year 1975. Selmon received a degree in Education. Fourth-year service in the university Lee Roy devoted ten hours per week to volunteer projects. He settled down in Tampa after college, playing for the Buccaneers for nine seasons and was three-times all-pro. His business career began. The first job he had was a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. He was no surprise that the year 1982 was when the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of 10 outstanding youngsters throughout the United States. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs as a college player he played for the team of 1975. He was promoted to the athletic director's assistant at the University of South Florida. Selmon has been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame since 1988. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma awarded it.
